To further enhance the protective capacity of rear seat restraints, Euro NCAP is planning to introduce stricter chest assessment criteria. At the 2022 Protection of Children in Cars conference, ACEA presented results indicating variability in chest responses between dummies in the field. In collaboration with Euro NCAP and OEMs, components causing these differences were identified. Where necessary, these parts were redefined and/or certification tests were added. When these updates are installed on the dummy, it is referred to as the Euro NCAP 2026 version.
While updates for the first three components are fully defined and adopted by Euro NCAP for their 2026 protocols, the dynamic compression test of the abdomen is still under development for future implementation. ISO coding for this version is also QB.
