WHAT is SizeEUROPE

SizeEUROPE is a large-scale anthropometric survey designed to collect up-to-date 3D body scan data across multiple European countries. The survey captures detailed information on body measurements, body shape and proportions, as well as selected sociodemographic variables, reflecting the diversity of the European population.

| Representative Body Measurement Data for Next-Generation Product Development | Up-to-Date Anthropometric Data for Better Fit, Ergonomics and Design |

WHY SizeEUROPE

Many existing datasets from European countries are outdated and no longer reflect today’s population. Changes in lifestyle, health and demographics can lead to shifts in body shape, proportions and size distribution. Up-to-date data is essential for reliable product development, ergonomics, sizing systems and standards work.

SizeEUROPE Goals:

  • Track how body measurements and shapes evolve over time across European populations
  • Maintain high standards for product fit, comfort and safety
  • Support innovation, digital product development and inclusive design
  • Enable comparability of anthropometric data across countries and over time
  • Respond to demographic and occupational trends
  • Reduce economic and reputational risks caused by poor fit or incorrect sizing

Learn HOW SizeEUROPE is implemented

Facts & Figures

SizeEUROPE is designed to cover multiple European countries to represent geographic, cultural and anthropometric diversity.

In the first phase, data collection will start in Germany and France in parallel. In a second phase, the data collection will expand to Spain and Poland, representing four major geographic regions of Europe (North/West/South/East). Within each country, data collection will take place 3-4 different locations to capture regional variation.

REPRESENTATIVITY & NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS

To ensure reliable results, the survey sample must represent the entire target population. The population is therefore divided into groups with similar characteristics (strata), such as age, gender and region. Participants are then selected from each group to ensure balanced and representative coverage.

The survey includes adults from all participating countries. Sampling is stratified by age, gender and region, with a minimum of 165 participants per group. This sample size ensures a measurement accuracy of 10 mm for body height at a 95% confidence level.

Based on this approach, SizeEUROPE will include a total of 7,980 participants, providing a robust and representative dataset for Europe.

AGE COVERAGE

Men and women aged 18 to over 65 will be measured. Results will be evaluated in six age groups each: 18–25, 26–35, 36–45, 46–55, 56–65 and over 65. This enables comparisons with existing international anthropometric studies.

COLLECTED DATA

The survey collects a comprehensive dataset including 3D body scans, manual measurements, demographic information (age, gender, region), additional variables relevant for apparel and automotive applications  and derived anthropometric measurements following ISO 8559, 7250 and ASTM standards. All data collection complies with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

PROVISION OF RESULTS

The final results will be implemented for individual analysis into Humanetics global body data portal iSize - Humanetics’ global body data portal for anthropometric analysis and into RAMSIS - Humanetics’ advanced digital human modeling software for ergonomic analysis and virtual product development.

These platforms allow detailed analysis, simulation, and product optimization.

START AND TIMELINE

Data collection is planned to start in April 2026.

Results are expected to become available within approximately 2 years after project launch.
