"For decades, large-scale size surveys have provided the statistical basis for these decisions. Traditionally, such surveys relied on manual anthropometric measurements collected by trained experts using conventional measurement tools. While these studies established important benchmark datasets, manual methods were time-intensive, costly, and operationally complex. In addition, the number of body dimensions that could realistically be captured remained limited, while measurement consistency depended heavily on operator experience.

The introduction of 3D body scanning technologies fundamentally transformed anthropometric research..."

"For many decades, anthropometric surveys relied primarily on manual measurements performed by trained anthropometry specialists using standardized instruments and internationally recognized protocols. These methods remain an important reference and continue to form the basis of international standards such as ISO 7250 (DIN EN ISO, 2017), ISO 8559 (DIN EN ISO, 2021) and ASTM (ASTM International, 2021). However, manual measurements are inherently time-consuming and require highly trained personnel to ensure measurement consistency across large populations.

The introduction of three-dimensional body scanning has fundamentally changed the way anthropometric surveys are conducted.,,,"
