
RAHUL MAHAJAN

Rahul Mahajan, Senior Deputy Director, has been with ARAI since 2002. He holds a postgraduate degree in Mechanical Design Engineering from the Government College of Engineering, Pune, Maharashtra. His expertise lies in Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE), crash, impact, and drop analysis of automotive structures and their validation, as well as linear, non-linear, contact, thermal, and fatigue analysis of automotive components and manufacturing process simulations. He has played a key role in introducing CAE-based certification at ARAI for commercial vehicles such as buses and trucks. He is responsible for assessing components, subsystems, and vehicles for passive safety and serves as Chairman of the BIS TED 29 Sectional Committee, Convenor for BNCAP 2.0, a member of the AISC Crash Panel, and one of India’s representatives at the GRSP meetings of WP-29. He also contributes to multiple standard formulation committees. Over his career, he has successfully executed numerous development projects across both automotive and non-automotive fields and has been instrumental in establishing advanced facilities at ARAI, including CAE software and hardware infrastructure, 3D scanning and benchmarking labs, and a drop test facility. He is involved in managing various test facilities such as the HyGe facility at FID, the HEIT facility at Takwe, and airbag and interior fitting test facilities at HTC. He currently leads a team of approximately 90 employees at EDS and around 150 employees at PSL, spread across the Kothrud and Chakan locations. Mr. Mahajan has published and presented several technical papers at national and international forums.
